The way we think, feel, and respond is shaped by our experiences and relationships. Over time, these ways of coping and relating can begin to guide our lives—sometimes in ways that no longer serve us.

Treatment reflects the importance of connection—recognizing that healing does not occur in isolation, but within the context of relationships, support, and real-life experiences.

Care integrates cognitive behavioral, insight-oriented, and trauma-informed approaches to help individuals better understand themselves and develop healthier, more effective ways of responding to life’s challenges.

With a balance of empathy, accountability, and structure, treatment supports the development of greater stability, insight, resilience, and a more grounded way of living.

About

My work in psychiatric nursing has spanned more than 40 years and included outpatient, inpatient, VA, community, and forensic settings. I have worked with individuals living with serious mental illness, trauma, homelessness, substance use issues, and those involved in the legal system.

Some of my earliest healthcare experiences began volunteering in a missionary hospital in Haiti in the 1970s and later working with homeless individuals living with mental illness in Los Angeles.

In addition to mental health care, I have worked at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Kapiʻolani Medical Center in Honolulu, and volunteered with the American Red Cross. These experiences deeply shaped my understanding of resilience, suffering, and human connection.

I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice in my 60s, reinforcing my belief that growth and change remain possible throughout life. My approach to treatment is thoughtful, structured, and collaborative, with attention to how past experiences, coping patterns, and relationships influence present functioning. I believe our struggles and imperfections do not define us; when acknowledged honestly and addressed with intention, they can become a source of resilience, insight, and meaningful change.
